All profits for Lions fund raising events are donated to charities.
We have made donations to the following local charities during the past year.
How Else Do We Make a Difference
Our major charge beginning with Helen Keller's challenge is to help the blind, visually impaired and deaf. We pay for examinations and eye glasses for children who cannot afford this. We send children to camps for the blind. We sponsor the Lions Hearing Van to come to our community and provide free screenings.
Collecting Used Glasses
What a simple but vital means to help people around the World. Collecting used prescription and non prescription glasses for adults and children help millions to see. We collect glasses at the following sights:
Dundee Township Library East Dundee
Dundee Senior Center East Dundee
Dundee Crown High School main office
Fifth Third Bank West Dundee
First Congregational Church West Dundee
At all Lions Fund raising events
Helping Others Thru Fund Raising Events
Fund raising events are chosen to enhance community spirit as well as to develop a comradarie among members.
Our annual pancake breakfast has become a community ritual for families to meet neighbors, enjoy a great meal and entertain children.
Our Middle School basketball tournament for both boys and girls has gone on since 1954. Aside from teams in the area of Dundee it draws from Hampshire, St. Charles and Elgin area. A rich heritage has developed with many of these participants going on to play at the high school and college level. This is both a service to our schools as well as to the many families who have the opportunity to see their children participate competitively in a wholesome environment.
During the Christmas season one of our major fun raisers is the sale of the trees and wreaths. We also sponsor the Festival of trees where various schools and Scout Troops compete in decorating trees for prizes.
In the summer we are partnering with the Dundee Township to provide food at the summer concert series in the park. We also served at no cost over 200 hot dogs for the parents and participants at the Tri-City Challenge league game. Seeing high school athletes partnering with challenged youth and being a part of this is an inspirational experience.
We believe as the Lions Founder, Melvin Jones said, “You can't get very far until you start doing something for someone else.”
